20 Jan The PERCEPTIONS Handbook – an introduction

One of the main outcomes of the PERCEPTIONS project is our interactive and practical handbook.

The PERCEPTIONS handbook provides information and tools to different stakeholders within the field of migration and is based on the findings of the PERCEPTIONS project. The idea of the handbook was to create a practical and accessible resource for all those who want to better understand some of the challenges of migration to Europe, and to design evidence-based responses to address these challenges.

The handbook is structured into three chapters covering

• Key insights and responses to common questions about the role of perceptions and narratives in decisions to migrate to Europe
• Examples of best practices and creative tools that can be employed to tackle some of these challenges at the local level

AND

• A review of immigration policies and recommendations for improvement as provided by different stakeholders involved in the project

The handbook distilled the project’s most essential information. A structured review ensured it is useful and accessible to its target audience: prospective readers were invited to read, critique and evaluate the handbook, resulting in a shorter and improved version.

The handbook assembles various perspectives, providing insights into how stakeholders experience migration on the ground. It is designed to work with our platform and digital resources (policy briefs, country reports, collection of best practices, knowledge articles and creative awareness materials).

In the hardcover version, QR codes guide to relevant and verified materials outside the book, while the online version uses hyperlinks. This embeds the book in the wider landscape of migration research, knowledge of creative and community practices, and policy insights.

The book moves from micro to meso to macro, encouraging readers to:

• Effect change by informing themselves
• Effect change by engaging local communities and stakeholders
• Create impact by addressing policy and legislation.
